15 Nov launch of aqua3s pilot in brussels
On November 2022, aqua3S launched its pilot located in the city of Brussels. The pilot running entails the monitoring of the water supply system in the city. The production and distribution of drinking water, as well as wastewater collection, is managed by the public company Vivaqua, headquartered in downtown Brussels.
The combination of the proposed aqua3S sensors brings new information, and are able to detect new substances and reduce false alarms. Placing miniaturised sensors in the distribution network helps to better protect consumers to deliberate contamination events, not only in the capital of Europe, but also to the water utilities in increase of true positives and decrease of false alarms.
The Refractive Index (RI) sensor, developed by ICCS, was installed at VIVAQUA’s laboratories. The sensor was contributed and demonstrated in the “Emergency – Severe weather event, impact spreads to distribution” scenario. In this context the RI sensor realized measurements of real water samples indicating changes in the refractive index of the water associated with KCl in demineralized water. The relevant measurements and data were transmitted in a real time manner to the aqua3s platform .
