02 Nov aqua3S pilot demonstration activities taking place in Τhessaloniki
On the 13th and the 14th of October 2022, EYATH SA in collaboration with RCM launched the aqua3S pilot demonstration activities in Thessaloniki, Greece. This pilot’s demonstration focuses on the safety and security of the drinking water recourses of the greater metropolitan area of Thessaloniki.
The “Ammonia sensor”, developed by mirSense and FZU, was installed in the Quality Control laboratory located at the Thessaloniki Water Treatment plant. The sensor was used in the “AMMONIUM pollution due to accidental disposal of fertilizer at the open water transportation channel” scenario and it involved testing two different type of water samples: (i) standard solutions of ammonia prepared with deionized water and (ii) real water samples which were collected from a tank at TWTP to which standard solutions of ammonia were added incrementally.
The Refractive Index (RI) sensor, developed by ICCS, was installed at EYATH premises and specifically at the outlet of sand filtration unit of the Thessaloniki Water Treatment plant. The RI sensor was contributed and demonstrated to the “AMMONIUM pollution due to accidental disposal of fertilizer at the open water transportation channel” scenario. In this context the RI sensor realized measurements of real water samples indicating changes in the refractive index of the water. The relevant measurements and data were transmitted in a real time manner to the aqua3S platform.
